Monument to the Righteous Among the Nations

The monument was erected in 2016 by the Jewish Community of Athens and Thessaloniki, in collaboration with Yad Vashem.

It bears the names, in alphabetical order, of the Greek Righteous Among the Nations, i.e. Christians who saved Jews during the Holocaust without personal gain. Among them are prominent figures such as Archbishop Damaskinos and Lela Karagianni. However, the majority of the Righteous were ordinary citizens who risked their lives to protect their fellow human beings.

👉 Yad Vashem awards the title “Righteous Among the Nations” after careful examination of testimonies and evidence, making the honorees part of the world's historical heritage.
